Antique Doorknobs

Antique door knobs are a great way to add something a little special to any home and the best part about them is that it’s a small change that could make the world’s difference.

If you are living in an old, Victorian style home that has been redone, you might feel as if though some of the pizzazz of the old Victorian feel has been taken away. Sure, the outside of the house might still have the beautiful architecture of the old Victorian style but the inside is now modern with a jazzed up kitchen, bathroom and a plasma TV to boot.

Changing the door knobs back to antique door knobs can have a dramatic effect on the décor and style of your home. Finding these special, old school door knobs can however be tricky and there are plenty of fraudsters out there who will try and rip you off by selling you fake door knobs.

The best place to look for antique door knobs is at your local antique dealer. You are guaranteed that these are authentic and the real deal. There are tons of different styles to choose from and you can find door knobs that match or even contrast the current, modern décor of your home.

You can also look for antique door knobs at your local flea market or yard sales. However, this is where you need to be very careful. Just because it looks old, doesn’t mean that it is and just because somebody says it is an antique, doesn’t mean that it is!

One of the best ways to identify an antique knob is to check for any manufacturer’s branding on it. If the door kob, for instance, says made in China, you know it’s a fake and a rip off. Look for door knobs that were made in England or even the United States of America. There might even be a date stamp on the door knob. This is the quickest and easiest way to tell whether these knobs are authentic.

Authentic antique knobs might cost a lot more than the fake rip off ones so unless you are trying to add some value to your home and push the price up, there really is no need to spend a fortune on door knobs. Buying replica antique knobs will do the same job as the real ones.

You can purchase these knobs online at several stores or even check on Ebay for people who are selling these in bulk. When buying from Ebay you need to be careful, though. Only buy from a reputable dealer with a high satisfaction rating. Check with the seller how much delivery cost will be and how long it will take to arrive. Ask for a tracking number in order to ensure you know where your package is and to help you track it if it does get lost.

Keep in mind that the screws required to attach authentic knobs might also differ and you might struggle to find these.

So, if you are looking to add that extra special something to your home, opt for antique door knobs.
